Mobile phone reviews are for sharing

January 29th, 2011

Mobile phones everyone has one, but not everyone understands them! Although, as you are probably aware, I am a self confessed geek it is always nice to get somebody else’s perspective and even I find myself trawling through reviews before making the leap into my next electronic purchase. Like many, one gadget I definitely couldn’t do without is my mobile phone and I am always in the process of looking for the next technological leap in mobile technology (not that I would ever discard my iPhone). Sometimes there can simply be so much information from so many people that it can be confusing.

With nearly a decade in the mobile industry, helping people to find their dream handset my brother decided to create a website that brings all the mobile phone reviews and information you need into one place without the confusing jargon that often surrounds the subject.

My new model railways retail website

September 24th, 2010

Anyone who knows me personally, knows I am the biggest geek ever and for the last year I have been planning a new retail website that actually sells ‘stuff’, not holidays or a place where people can leave me their reviews and free content, but real things – Model Trains!. A couple of years ago I acquired, rather cheaply, modelrailways.co.uk. I wasn’t really sure what I was going to do with it but it’s a good domain that would make an excellent retail website, however at the time it wasn’t a option I was really considering. Then last summer the owner of another website contacted me and asked what my intentions were with the domain, as they “wouldn’t be very happy if I set it up as a shop”. It turns out they had tried to buy said domain before me but thought it was overpriced. Doh.

Wooden Toboggan delivered in less than 24 hours.

February 3rd, 2009

As the home counties became covered in 6+ inches of snow I started to wish I had ordered the wooden Toboggan I wanted the last time it snowed. Of course the kids would be the main beneficiary of such a purchase – honest.

With the kids off nursery on Monday morning I decided to have look and see what was about to buy, so that I had something for ‘next time’ it snowed. Bearing in mind that the press were reporting that 65% of the UK’s work force had taken the day off I didn’t think I would see anything I ordered until at least late this week or early next.

Travel Affiliates – Whats going to sell

December 29th, 2008

As the value of the pound against the euro continues to crumble holidaymakers in the UK are looking to non-euro destinations for cheaper holidays. So if you have a travel website or are thinking of building one in 2009 then you need to be thinking Turkey & Egypt. Both are outside the euro and pose excellent value for those looking to save money whilst abroad.

Given the choice, I personally would go for Turkey, only because Egypt’s flight program is a bit lighter since XL Airways went bust. There are other airlines stepping in to the fil the gap, however I am sure that many are waiting to see how the travel industry fairs in the traditional January early booking period.

If you havent’ already, don’t forget to check out sunshine’s awesome affiliate area.

Forum ‘Over-Moderation’, Why?

December 17th, 2008

Ok, so really riled right now so I thought I would post now while I was angry rather than wait till I have calmed down and taken a chill pill :)

Why do some forums over-moderate themselves? What I mean is why do some have such strict posting rules and guidelines that it makes them a wanky place to hang out? I know that we as website owners have to be careful here in the UK as laws are such, that if something liable or defamatory is posted we are held personally responsible. I’ll give you an example of what I mean…

Link lover cheated!

October 30th, 2008

I want to tell you the story of how my (link) lover cheated me and only wanted me for my money (deeplinks). I did think about trying to write this in the style of a Mills & Boon novel, however I have never had the pleasure of reading one.

So we all know the score, you’ve slaved for hours coding and building and adding content to a new website. The next thing you want to do is try and get some reciprocal links, or link love as we prefer to call it.

My new niche website about ‘widget reviews’, and by a stroke of luck and careful negotiation, I manage to bag myself ‘widgets.com’. So armed with a cup of well made tea I started scouring the web for potential suitors to exchange some love with. Pretty quickly I come across a store selling widgets with a domain ‘widgetsdirect.com’. Hmm, no PR, few thousand pages in google, well structured site and its bang on the money as far as being of the same subject as my site.
