For the second successive race meeting, Team sunshine.co.uk with Tech-Speed Motorsport was able to celebrate a podium finish in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship after a stunning weekend of racing at Rockingham.
Widnes-racer Paul O’Neill produced a fine drive in the final race of the weekend to finish in second place behind the works Honda of Matt Neal, a result which handed Team sunshine.co.uk with Tech-Speed its first Independents victory. Paul also now leads the Independents’ Trophy standings after the first six races of the year and remains fourth overall – just four points behind second placed Matt Neal.
Paul qualified in tenth place at the wheel of his Honda Integra but gambled on dry tyres for the opening race despite morning rain. It proved to be the right call as Paul battled his way up to finish in sixth place but he was forced to settle for eighth in race two after losing time early on following contact from the BMW of Mat Jackson.

After a stunning start to the new Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season at Thruxton, Team sunshine.co.uk with Tech-Speed will look to maintain its strong form this weekend as the series heads to Rockingham for the second round of the campaign.
Paul O’Neill picked up three top six finishes at Thruxton – including a fine third place in race two – to lie fourth in the overall championship, while new team-mate John George picked up his first top ten finish for more than a season on his debut.
Those results mean Team sunshine.co.uk with Tech-Speed will arrive at Rockingham this weekend sitting in a hugely impressive fourth in the HiQ Teams Championship standings.

Team sunshine.co.uk with Tech-Speed Motorsport enjoyed a stunning start to the new Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season at Thruxton, with Paul O’Neill securing a well earned podium finish and John George scoring points on his debut for the team.
Widnes-ace Paul qualified tenth on the grid at the wheel of his Honda Integra but a storming drive up the order saw him take the chequered flag in fourth place, having closed rapidly on third-placed Mat Jackson through the closing laps to finish just half a second way from the podium.
A quick start in race two saw Paul climb to third and he harried the works Chevrolet of Jason Plato throughout the first twelve laps before the Honda of Matt Neal became involved in the fight for second. Neal managed to get ahead into third place but then tangled with Plato, with Paul taking advantage to get ahead of Plato’s Chevrolet and secure his second podium finish for the team.

Team sunshine.co.uk with Tech-Speed Motorsport will aim for a strong start to its second season in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season gets underway at Thruxton this weekend.
The opening three races of the 2010 campaign will mark the home event for title sponsor sunshine.co.uk, adding extra excitement to what is already a hotly anticipated season for the team.

The corresponding race meeting last season saw fans favourite Paul O Neill make his return to the BTCC, and the popular Widnes-racer came close to securing a dramatic victory before suffering an unfortunate puncture while battling for the lead in the final race.
Paul heads into the weekend hoping to once again fight near the front of the field, with solid points from the opening weekend being the main target.

I have recently set up my website to showcase my motorsport photos. The website – speedsnaps.co.uk actually uses wordpress and a free theme. Thanks to some jiggery pokery it uses lightbox to display the pictures. Please feel free to have a look and leave me some feedback. I still have lots and lots of pictures to upload, however so far I have only uploaded images from the British Touring Car Championship at Silverstone.

I am going to try and write this blog post without gags about the sunshine.co.uk being out this weekend etc but it’s going to be tough after such a fantastic start to the 2009 BTCC season.
Sadly due to work commitments in Spain, Paul O’Neill was unable to race at Brands Hatch, however he WILL be out fielding the second car at Thruxton Circuit on the 26th April.

The weekend started off well after a strong qualifying session by Martyn which saw us settle in 15th place on the grid. Despite being more than half way back on the grid it was great for a number of reasons. Firstly, by his own admission, Martyn is a racer not a qualifier and prefers to race against other cars as opposed to the clock. Secondly we were only 0.143 seconds off the fastest time posted by Dave Pinkney in his Team Dynamics Honda Civic – a newer car run by a team with a much bigger budget than ours. Finally, last season Martyn qualified in 24th position. We had been set to qualify a strong 13th however we missed out on the last few minutes of qualifying after Jelley put his Team RAC BMW in the gravel trap, bringing a halt to proceedings and loss of the heat in our tyres with not much time to get them warm again. Pinkney and George just finding a tenth of a second before Jelley’s off.

Rockingham Circuit in Northamptonshire once again hosted Media Day for the forthcoming HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship. It also gave the media the first look at the Team sunshine.co.uk liveried Honda Integra that we will be campaigning this season.

I travelled up to Rockingham on the Wednesday morning with the other half, with the aim of arriving just before Martyn and Paul were due to film their pre season introduction for ITV. Sadly due to unforeseen circumstances (The wife took ages to get ready), we didn’t arrive at the circuit until 12:30 – we were hoping to be there about 11:30. Martyn and Paul were already ‘having fun’ in front of the cameras when we eventually arrived.

During an open testing session at Silverstone circuit on friday the 13th March, Citroen were seen testing what looked like contenders for the 2009 British Touring Car Championship. Citroen, who have never before entered the BTCC look like they could be set to replace SEAT with a couple of unlikely drivers.
The cars spotted were carrying the livery of what could be a works team and also a independents livery. The biggest shock however was the drivers themselves, none other than Fabrizio Giovanardi (#1) and Erkut Kizilirmak (#90). The pair were snapped during a cold and wet day, rounding Becketts in to the Club Straight…
